While I was at Britmums Live recently, I got to watch a few snippets and songs from the new musical about motherhood, “The Good Enough Mums Club“.

I can easily say that this preview was one of the highlights of the weekend for me. I loved it. I cannot wait for them to (hopefully!) tour the country so I can demand to go and watch the whole thing!

They had me crying with laughter and joining in with some silly singing & dancing, as well as a special pledge. My membership badge is now being displayed proudly on my handbag.

This is more than just a funny show about motherhood with a few songs thrown in though, it is tackling some of the real issues that new mums struggle with. The dialogue and songs we got to see really made me think about what it’s like being a mum, and the pressures and self-imposed standards that come with the job.

The Good Enough Pledge

Motherhood isn’t a walk in the park, and it can be a very lonely or judgemental world at times. The words of the pledge really struck a chord with me and I think some of my friends who are mothers would take comfort in knowing that it is perfectly fine to not be the “perfect mum” all the time…

The Good Enough Mums Club is a poignant and hilarious toddle through the highs, lows and sleep deprivation of mummyhood. From peeing on sticks to drooping tits we share the love and dispel the myths with enough wipes on hand to mop the tears and clean away the snotty laughter.

Five women, thrown together by motherhood, overcome their isolation, loneliness, judgment and desire for perfection to discover that they’re stronger as a group than as individuals, and that sometimes, being good enough, is best.

Also, I’m never going to be able to sing “head, shoulders, knees and toes” without smirking EVER AGAIN.

I really hope that the musical is successful; I’m pretty sure it will be! You can check out some previews of their songs here and keep up with them on Facebook and twitter.
